Thread: Brass Sources

  1. #11
My shooting buddy doesn't reload, but does give me his brass. Hell, he picks it up when he shoots without me and gives it to me. Find a shooting buddy like that!

ETA:. I have found a few companies that sell it by googling "once fired brass for sale". Never used any of the companies I found, but I've been looking because I may start loading for some oddball rounds.

My last order came from Rocky Mountain Reloading.
They have lots of brass and bullets, some of the bullets they
    produce themselves.

New brass I bought, years ago, came from Starline.

I've used southernbellebrass.com for about 20 years. Good outfit.

A local range sells 9mm range sweep ups for 30$ /1000.

I truly loathe the .380 cases that slip ino those bags.
Don’t blame me. I didn’t vote for that dumb bastard.

Get a 100 round MTM case for 40/45. Pour handfuls of 9mm brass on it while shaking it. Cases mostly fall case head down into the large holes; works best if you keep shaking it while pouring. Once full look to see if all case mouths are level, from all 4 sides.

38 supersuper comp cases stick way up.
380 cases are shorter than the rest
9x18 Makarov cases can even be detected!

Pull out non-9mm cases with tweezers.

Look in the case mouths for obstructions, Berdan primed cases, dinged case mouths, stepped cases (MAXXTech for sure, maybe FM/IMI/Ammoload) etc. Remove them.

Pour all 9mm brass from hand to hand. You can now hear the tinny link of split cases.

Also, use a big magnet to detect the brass-washed steel cases that cannot be detected by eye.

IMHO MUCH faster/easier to QC up front and not deal with maddening issues one by one during the loading process.

If I don't spot them beforehand, I'll see them when I use my dedicated depriming toolhead on the 650.

I leave the pin out on station 4 and yank those @/&#ers out there.

I keep an old coffee can by my 550 and toss the 380s in there while loading 9mm. Minor irritant for sure. Much worse is the small primer 45 ACP brass - that is an abomination!

Thanks to this post my lazy ass didn't drive to my usual source. Cheap cleaning and free shipping is tough to beat.

Monmouth reloading cited above has cleaned brass at less than $24/1000. My experience with them is good. I'm sure that the one you selected is good also.
