    I too am a fan of lighter weight! The primary parts to weight-watch are optics, barrel, handguard and stock. Of course, keeping accessories to a minimum helps too.

    Using a BCM BFH 16" Mid Length ELW upper, I assembled this carbine which weighs 7.5 pounds unloaded (sans the WML) and is capable of near-MOA precision;

    Note - the Leupold VX-R Patrol and GG&G mount weigh 17 ounces.

    I don't have numbers handy, and you said you already had a lower receiver, but a CAV-15 lower might be an option:

    My ELW-F uppers from BCM are fairly light; if you don't care about muzzle devices pick up a 14.5 ELW-F Upper with the KMR and a pinned A2X flash hider. Also pick up the BCM BCG and a H1 or H2 buffer.

    Few things I've learned when building ARs...you'll pay more in the long run upgrading a so-so AR to run correctly as opposed to just buying quality in the first place.

    True - it would save the money of a stock/tube/grip, and selling a stripped lower would defer the costs a bit.
