Have hunted deer with a pistol a few times. Just have never gotten a shot while doing so. Last half dozen attempts were with a G31 .357 Sig. I really want to take a deer with that one.Originally Posted by xphunter

One way to solve that is to just stop bringing your rifle or any other weapon
I've taken a dozen or so deer with a handgun and half of them were with my carry guns ..... Glock 21, Glock 30, Colt 1911, S&W Model 13, and S&W 4506.
The path of least resistance will seldom get you where you need to be.
I've killed blacktail and whitetail deer with S&W Model 29 variants and Ruger Bisleys in 45 Colt. Most of the time, both cartridges were loaded to 45 ACP ballistics. I've also taken boatloads of small game with 22's, usually a 6" S&W K-frame or a S&W M-41.

Mostly deer Ruger Redhawk 44mag irons
I use both single and double actions revolvers. I have hunted deer, hogs, and water buffalo. I have successfully used 357 maximum, 41 mag, 44 special, 44 mag, 45 colt, 454 Casull, 460 S&W, and 500 S&W. I have also taken a few hogs with a LAR Grizzly 45 win mag.
