    Measuring sight heights

Arrgghh. I thought I had ordered the correct rear sight for my Glock, but it appears that Dawson measures height from the top of the slide, while Ameriglo measures from the bottom of the dovetail. The Dawson 0.250" rear I've got is approximately 0.335" from the bottom of the dovetail, whereas an Ameriglo listed at 0.272" is approximately 0.272" from the bottom of the dovetail.

Do most other sight manufacturers measure from the top of the slide or the bottom of the dovetail?

I wondered if there was a standard on this. Apparently not.

The correct way to measure a sight is to measure the sight. Some have dovetails, some don't so it's the sight you are supposed to measure. Dawson is wrong, and you can tell them I said so.
