    Heavy Metal Holster

Though I have never carried it outside of a range setting, I'm thinking about investing in a quality leather holster for my safe queen 5906.

The challenge is that there are not many makers who make a holster for this pistol. I contacted Mitch Rosen (whose shop is a ten minute drive from where I live) but he doesn't offer anything for it. Through some research I have found that TT GunLeather does and found two models of interest: the OWB Scabbard and the Slim XC.

Since I'm under no illusion of the challenge of concealing a 5906, I'm leaning toward the OWB Scabbard for maximum comfort and decent concealability under a sweatshirt or jacket. That said, I comfortably carry a Walther PPS in a IWB Comp-Tac and fully appreciate the concealability of it. So here is my question - is the 5906 too big and too heavy to carry in something like the Slim XC?

I know the real answer is "it depends" but any insight is appreciated!

Man up, it's not a .50 Desert Eagle. I carry a Beretta 92F loaded with 19 rounds every day, so I'm certain you can carry a 5906 if you want to.

Think about a Milt Sparks 55BN. I love the design for 1911s, and it should be fine for the Smith. Plus Sparks has been around forever, so I'm sure they can make one to fit. I would also suggest JM Custom Kydex. I carry my Beretta in either an IWB #2 or OWB #1. Tony lists S&W 908 and 6906, so I bet he can hook you up.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the TT Gun Leather, but some other makers that list (most leather makers don't have a good list on their website) the 5906 are...

    Tucker http://www.tuckergunleather.com/pist...sters-leather/

    Kramer http://www.kramerleather.com/which-h...D=&categoryID=

    High Noon http://www.highnoonholsters.com/cata...ltiselect=3470

    Lobo http://www.lobogunleathers.com/handguns_accomodated

    Simply Rugged https://www.simplyrugged.com/gun-model-chart.cfm

I'd think a pancake would be the more comfortable of the OWB designs as it spreads the weight out more on the belt.

I recently noticed that Kramer does, indeed, offer holsters for a quite wide variety of older pistols, including such low-production-number pistols as the S&W 3913LS. (We almost bought one, not long ago.) Kramer's horsehide holsters were the "kydex" rigs of their era, even being resistant to seawater, and are as relevant today as ever. I still like horsehide (and other good leather) for its silence during the draw-stroke.

I have several Kramer rigs for revolvers and SIGs, and one, the MSP Paddle, that was molded for a G30S, and fits my G19 pistols just fine.

For instant gratification, if you win the availability lottery, Kramer's nephew sells over stock and seconds on a prominent on-line auction site.

For IWB I prefer Kydex for the combination of thinness and rigidity. For a belt holster, Kramer's Belt Scabbard is hard to beat. I have three of them.

Any chance you could post a link to the nephew's page? Thanks in advance.

I am not so sure that is the polite thing to do, here. Going to that "e" auction site, and searching for Kramer holster, will result in items that are mostly listed by him. His location is Puyallup, Washington. I have ordered from him at least twice, with good reaults.

I know that Milt Sparks will make a 55BN for a S&W 5906 because they made one for me not that long ago. They have molds for both the older square trigger guard and the newer rounded trigger guard.

Pretty sure you'll find a selection of 5906 holsters on the 'bay if you keep looking. Another maker I'd check is Fist holsters. They do both leather and kydex. I lugged around a 4566 for quite a while in a LH custom Askins Avenger style OWB by Dougherty while doing cop stuff. He's been out of the leather biz for quite a while now.
The first indication a bad guy should have that I'm dangerous is when his
disembodied soul is looking down at his own corpse wondering what happened.
