    P30 Chambering a Round

I'm new to the P30 and wasn't sure what to think of this. After loading the gun when I finished dry-firing yesterday, I noticed I can actually see brass when the slide is fully forward. I thought maybe is was a funky round, so I chambered another, and it happened again. I've got about 500 rounds of this type of factory-loaded ammo through the pistol, and have had zero issue.

Is that normal? Looks like it's not all the way in battery, but the slide's forward as far as it will go.

It happens with Glocks too? I guess they're so ugly I never wanted to look at the things.

Also, what's that antler thingy at the end of the serial number?

Can't comment on the P30 but this is entirely normal with Glocks for sure.

Also normal with Sig 320. I personally like being able to see one in the chamber so I don't have to dick around with press checking

While the extractor is supposed to also double as a visual and tactile chamber loaded indicator (the little bit of red paint on top of the extractor is supposed to become visible, and it'll stick out slightly from the frame so you can feel it) it's rather pathetic and ineffective (for which i'm somewhat glad. it's pretty darn hard to make something like that that doesn't look/feel like bovine feces,) so a slight gap is designed into the end of the extractor so you can see the casing, if the firearm is loaded.

That is the explanation that was given to me many years ago.

If there were no gap then the extractor would run into the back of the barrel during closing. Because this is a pivoting extractor retained by the pin it likely would cause your extractor to break the hook if it did run into the barrel. Certain rear sprung styles can get away with some contact since there is no hard stop, but then you don't really control your position and tension under recoil too well.
