Thread: A thank you to Massad Ayoob

A thank you to Massad Ayoob

I've met Massad Ayoob at a few previous events, but to say that I know him well would be a stretch.

This weekend we both took part in the Rangemaster Tactical Conference. When we crossed paths, he immediately asked, "How's your guy (Adam Thrower) that was in the shooting?" He then offered up a few relevant suggestions regarding the incident.

I am deeply humbled and appreciative that he was concerned for "my guy" and that he had taken the time to make thoughtful consideration of the case.

Again, I am humbled. Thank you, Mr. Ayoob.

I had an ER nurse in a class. I noticed she kept taking all head shots. Her response when asked why, "'I've seen too many people who have been shot in the chest putting up a fight in the ER." Point taken.

Thanks, Lee. We're all in this together, in the big picture. And congratulations on coming in top cop at the shoot!

    That's awesome to hear!

I've really enjoyed the couple of classes I have taken with Mas.

I've been reading Mas' material since I was about 15. It was my great pleasure to meet him at TacCon a few years ago.

Mas has gone out of his way to be helpful to this novice gunwriter.

It was intimidating as hell to have Mas attend one of my sessions and see him take notes and take pictures. It was cool, but still ridiculously intimidating. I am reasonably sure I stammered a lot.

Reading his book The Truth About Self-Protection as a college freshman in 1982 set me on the path I am on today. Before that book, I had no grasp on the idea that guns and martial arts should be integrated. He was the first one to not just pay public lip service to that concept, but actually embody it and actively promote it.

Last year at TacCon, I even tried to wheedle him into writing an updated version of that seminal book. I'm going to keep pestering him.
