By semi auto pistols, I assume you mean striker fired semi auto pistols. It might not work so well with a hammer fired gun or one with a large beavertail.

Honest question. Do the people teaching, or that have been taught, this technique pressure test it against a resisting/noncompliant/full-on-combative opponent that is simultaneously trying to impose his will against you? Lot of things that work great and seem like good ideas when shooting paper become difficult, if not impossible, when the other guy gets a vote.

Correct. One shot then it will require a rack to clear the malfunction once clear of the situation.

I'm curious if, during such a close up life or death struggle, one's lizard brain will want to give up the death grip that its opposable thumb has on that life saving tool.

Also the number of people that go "South-who?" or "Tom-who?" when I mention names like Tom Givens or Southnarc is relatively high once you get out of the PF/TPI circle. That's assuming they even get training beyond whatever safety class people take when they first purchase a gun or get their CCW.
