Help me pick out and set up a 590/590A1?

Is the Magpul stock nice? The semi pistol grip looks handy, but the front need a picatinny installed, vs the tri-rail pump that already has the rail. I'd like to try a red dot on it, but it seems the basic 590/A1 doesn't have a rail on top. And the ones that do have a Ghost Ring/ XS that cant be seen with a red dot? If not the Magpul then i'd get a youth stock.

As for Red Dots, seems Aim Pont T-2 is the consensus?

    And for light:

You might reach out to Wayne Dobbs. He runs a 590, and is very proficient with it.

As far as lights are concerned, if Surefire is an option, Surefire is the answer.

Agreed about the brand. The issue is using the common forearm with built in light on a 590 requires removal of the bayonet lug. That requires machining and refinishing (or a hacksaw and bluing pen while your buddy holds your beer - haha!). The forearm does work with the SBS 14" version which is the one I'd buy today if I was doing it over.

I ended up using the Surefire railed forearm and a VTAC mount. Not pretty but it works. Running a light on a pump seems to always have some drawbacks.

So what is the consensus, 590 or 590A1? Are the extra metal parts worth it?

    The heavy barrel is.....heavy.
I find the shape of the stock button to be too flat in either material. There are good aftermarket metal options.
I don't have enough experience with both trigger groups to compare.

18" or 20" There's no bayonet lug on the 18" and the surefire forarm works great

    I use this on my 20" http://www.primaryarms.com/rs-produc...hotguns-bm-12g

Just ordered a 590. I’m wondering if any has a sling plate that comes with the S&J hardware mag extension they would like to sell? Where I want to mount the Inforce WMLX I need a vertical sling mount plate and that is the only one I can find but I don’t need the mag extension and they only sell them together.
