Independence Aluminum Cased 9mm - Popped Primer

Today I was running Dot Torture WITH my Gen 4 Glock 17 and Independence aluminum cased 115 grain FMJ.

I had a round which felt hotter than normal so I stopped and saw this stoppage:

Apparently the round was hot enough to pop the primer and knock the anvil loose from the primer cup.

Even the "normal" spent case and primer show flow back into the firing pin hole.

I've shot over 1k of this ammo without issue. I've heard of pooped primers with ZQI and Fiocchi 9mm - has any one else experienced this issue with Independence ammo?

That sure looks like a double-charged round. Who makes Independence ammo?

Primer still looks kinda rounded though? I shoot lots of double charges and they are all flat as a pancake.

It says made in USA. I believe they are owned by Federal.

Primer cup did not appear to be pierced.

Post the lot# here, contact Federal customer service, and ask for replacement with domestically manufactured AE or Classic product. Dropped primers happen. Independence merits less benefit of the doubt however.

    This seems like solid advice.

    What?

I'm sitting on about 500 rounds of this stuff. Thought it might be useful for matches where you can't scrounge your brass (shakes fist at sky) but its reputation is pretty poor.

According to an M4 Carbine forum (unnamed) Independence also cranked out some crazy hot 5.56 rounds within the last couple of years. I'd say it is one brand to avoid.

MIDWAY is running a deal right now with aggressive pricing on the Independence Aluminum 9mm. Are there multiple reports on PF about this ammo or is this an isolated case?
