I do wonder if the first picture was not posed.

As in, by city slickers, doing 'dress up' in Western Gear inspired maybe by Wild Bill's spectacular shows popular in the era.

The second pic looks more gritty and authentic.

LL, any additional info on the pics?

    Cool AIWB though.

The name Johnny Baker is under the young man laying down in the left front. He is the adoptive son of William Buffalo Bill Cody and a member of the Cody Wild West Show.
There are pictures of him on the interwebs and indicate this is the same guy. The boots and/or leg wrappings (whatever they are) give it away.

In the Rochester site, you need to click on the pdf at the top middle of the page to see a picture of the guy. Same boots/leg wrappings.

    This show was huge.

So, I bet this picture is of some of "the guys" in the wild west show.
    It's probably middle 1880s.

So, it seems Rich gets the gong for being closest guess about the Cody Wild West Show.

Little Johnny was supposed to be the marksman of the show, along with Annie Oakley.

I just found this youtube video of the guy shooting.
    Great range safety.

AIWB with SAA revolvers is as old as the hills. As a bonus, the loading gate can be flipped open to serve as a hook, to keep the sixgun from sliding farther down into the trousers. Once upon a time, when my P229 and SP101 were both disassembled for maintenance, other handguns were in the safe, and I suddenly realized I was late for an appointment to meet a colleague at a steakhouse, I grabbed the nearest handgun that was handy, a USFA China Camp Single Action, and AIWB-ed to dinner. As luck would have it, we very nearly had to draw, when some "Utes" in a car decided to, shall we say, evaluate us.
