    Suggestions for places to live

Hi all. My wife and I have considered relocating away from the D.C. Area for a more laid back lifestyle and cheaper housing. Good schools, low crime, and a variety of things to do would be a priority as I have a 5 and 8 year old. We do not want to live anywhere north of Virginia. Obviously no blue states.

    Thanks!

Urban or rural setting? NC has a lot to offer on the rural side. I don't have much familiarity with the urban settings.
There's nothing civil about this war.

    West.

Not a lot of guidance to go on, so there's my recommendation.

Saying you live near DC but want to go more laid back and less expensive, is like saying you live on the moon and would like to move somewhere with more oxygen. Pick a direction and go that way. It'll get better.

What are your and your wife's careers/job fields?

Many of my colleagues moved West out of DC area. Many to West Virginia. A few moved to the "real" West. The idea is growing on me.

I'm an auto mechanic and the wife is in marketing, but recently got her security clearance and works at a doctors office part time.
We live just outside the beltway but are considering more rural.
we should have a very nice down payment for a place to compensate for lower incomes in other areas after selling our house.
A nice perk would be enough land to practice my pistol craft.
Just up in the air right now. We are considering Utah, Texas, South Carolina, etc.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

If we ever leave Virginia, we're heading to Arizona.

Arizona. You can find a lot of house for a good deal in the Prescott area.
