Teacher vs. instructor

I told a college Prof once that I had experienced both Teachers and Professors during my entire career as a student. Teachers are the few who can successfully teach a student something while a Professor only professesto the student that he knows things.

Too many instructors don't know nearly as much about a subject as they pretend to, and it is a huge pet peeve of mine when people fall back on "it depends" too often. Sometimes it does depend, but then you need to lay those circumstances out. Many other times, "It depends" means, "I don't know".

Long, long ago, I was told that "'It depends' is almost always an accurate answer, and almost never a good one."
