Back to finding myself never carrying the bag, just pulling the bare minimum out of it. Came to a bit of a head yesterday when I needed a tool that I knew I have in the bag but didn't have the bag because the bag sucks. Mostly that it's too heavy, and the straps are annoying.

I'm thinking of going to two bags, one of which may be a sling. Considering this guy. Looks like I can leave it packed with some stuff, cycle some other stuff in and out. The fact that the main pouch holds an iPad is a big consideration.

No experience with them personally, but I hear that TIMBUK2 bags are supposed to be good.

I'm still digging my Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II, though it is a bit heavy. Of course, I think I may need to get rid of some of the stuff in it.

[humor]At this point the operative question is, "Can you fit a SIG Rattler in it?"[\humor]
From Older Offspring after a discussion of coffee:

"If it doesn't come from the Kaffa province of Ethiopia, it's just hot roasted-bean juice."

that is one attractive aspect for me. My current work bag is a Timbuk2 briefcase as is my previous one.

I keep checking back on this thread, hoping someone will come up with an acceptable bag for me. I'm and old, busted and broken retired deputy who looks stupid trying to play tacti-cool with nylon, mole, web anything. Nothing more pathetic than a fat, old guy trying to look like some kind of operator. People just point and laugh.

    Still searching (smile),
    Dave

How about this. Essentially it’s a big fanny pack you sling over your shoulder. It’s got a large pull tab. It’s got compartments that you can put armor plates in. It can quickly transition from a sling bag into a chest rig. It’s pretty slick.

this particular bag is a little more "purse" like than I'd want in this situation, but it did get me looking around at their other slings. But again I run up against the weight issue. Even that sling weighs about what my original pack weighed!

Started to get excited about this one, but it's >3lbs empty!

We have a few bags from Port Canvas https://www.portcanvas.com

Edit to add: When I travel, I throw a bunch of stuff, flashlight, glasses, knife, pen, notebook, maps, etc, in an LL Bean small canvas bag https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/5166...=f&nav=gnro-hp
