Thread: Thumbs forward riding G19 slide release

Thumbs forward riding G19 slide release

I've got medium-sized hands with long fingers. Currently shooting a G19 gen4 with the medium backstrap. The both thumbs forward grip feels more solid than thumb down, but my right thumb ends up on top of the slide release(stock), frequently causing the slide to not lock back on the last shot.

Dropping the thumb seems to make it more difficult to get a solid grip with the support hand.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Move your right thumb to the left and rest it on top of your left hand on/near the carpometacarpal joint.

Yes sir. I had intermittent slide lock issues (with Glocks in general), this cleaned it right up.

This. It's also really just a generally good practice as multiple major platform ::coughSIGcough:: are also quite susceptible to this phenomenon.

Thanks for posting this. I learned a few things and it was helpful. Previously I had ignored this issue on Glocks and just reloaded with running the slide. The issue becomes more serious when thumb placement causes premature lock back on a full magazine. This technique can make it a non-issue.
