Thread: Help ID old revolver

I have an old S&W M&P that I dated to the 1920's by going through the S&W forums. My serial number is 395XXX. You can date yours as earlier or later by that.

No need for the SW Forums if you don't want to. Just post the truncated SN here and Dagga Boy, myself or others can look it up in our copies of SCSW.

    Yeah, baby.
    SCSW say 1915-1942 241,704- 700,000
    Not very informative.

Earlier ranges are tied down a bit closer
    1906-1909 73,251- 146,899
    1909-1915 146,900- 241703
OP said his had a six digit number, so I didn't see a reason to show their bracket before 1906.

Guns were not shipped in serial number order, you can bring it up on the S&W board and see guns in the same range that went out way apart. But you can sure get closer than 27 years.

So the SN range for yours is listed from 1915-1942 with that range being 241704 - 700000 (SCSW 3rd Edition, page 397). Given Bill's information and your early range number, I'd bet the gun was made before 1920. I'm not sure what the factory letter situation is at Smith now, but I'd try to get one on this neat old gun.
