We still have some old Sure Fire barrel clamp mounts on a couple ARs. They were originally bought to mount lights on the Mini 30s.

I have an old (1980 or so) Choate mount for an 870 that took a D cell light. I drilled the butt cap of my B-Light for a pressure switch. It was clunky but worked OK.
I have a carbine with a Surefire M500A. That fucker is heavy as shit but I love the locations of the lamp (~2 o'clock) and switches.
My father was a cop for 28 years. [1963-1991]
I can remember him coming home for dinner break, in his duty belt, with a radio that was big as a loaf of bread.
He used to say he could leave his nightstick in the car, and thump someone with the radio, due to it's size.
His service weapons were:
M&P, 4"
Colt trooper 6"
Colt trooper MKIII 4"
Smith 686 4"
Smith model 59.
He carried a 4D cell aluminum "Kel-light"

"... And miles to go before I sleep".
Thanks for sharing these, pretty cool history.
That's a great picture. It's like looking at a picture from the dark ages. MP5s and ballistic nylon vests.
What's the pistol in the first guy's holster? I presume a BHP, but it sure doesn't look like one from here.
