Soulhat was one of those regional bands that never really made it big, although they should have. To me, they sound like someone took Austin-style blues/rock and hybridized it with the Seattle grunge sound coming to the forefront when it was released in 1994. The drumming is very complex, explained by the fact that the majority of the band was the younger type you'd expect, but the drummer was Barry "Frosty" Smith, who used to play drums for Parliament. Dude could bang them drums like it was going out of style.
Musical style aside, I love the over-the-top quintessentially American tall tale lyrics ("Well I'm the mighty Bonecrusher, and I crush NYC/It wasn't nearly half as bad as they made it look like on TV/Well I jumped down from the Empire State and landed on my head/I got up and did a little fuckin' dance just to prove that I wasn't dead!"). It makes you think of a bunch of friends drinking beer and trying to come up with the most outlandish boast they could think of.
I enjoyed this song so much I tracked down a copy of the album, only to find that it contained an abbreviated version of the song that was missing a couple verses. The rest of the album has some real gems on it, from the title track "Good to be Gone", the surprisingly poignant "Big Nose" and "Preacher Man", and the hilarious "Dirty Old Man"

It don't get much more classic than a blues song about selling your soul for blues fame at the crossroads.

More fusion, this time blues with growlcore death metal. Dethklok is a fictional band from a cartoon show, but they definitely did some really neat original music that has enough melody to actually make it interesting. Hearing blues rhythm performed with heavy, grinding instruments is really fascinating.
