A few years back we saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in concert with the Atlanta orchestra at a large outdoor venue. The orchestra played an opening set before BBVD came on and it was awesome. When the drums sounded the opening of "Sing Sing Sing" all of a sudden a really big swing dance flash mob got up and danced the whole number. I loathe the whole flash mob thing but that was actually pretty cool.
And BBVD was really really good.

And a shout-out for some rocker/ska/early reggae... like "1952 Vincent Black Lightning", it's an outlaw/highwayman tune that speaks to the heart of a lot of people.
3 versions of the classic "Johnny Too Bad"
The original, from The Slickers, 1966/72 from the "The Harder They Come" soundtrack
Taj Mahal cover, 1974. Harder reggae, though he is from Massachusetts (a musician friend went to high school & had a crush on his kid sister- she was as charming and pretty as Taj is handsome and talented)
And a version from Steve Earle with US band the V-Roys from 1999
"If I ever needed to hunt in a tuxedo, then this would be the rifle I'd take." - okie john
"Not being able to govern events, I govern myself." - Michel De Montaigne
Lex, that version by The Slickers brings me back to the 70's. Was one of my all-time favorite cuts from that great album...and resonates deeply with me still.
"You're gonna run to the rock for rescue...there will be no rock!"
In the same vein, I can't think of that song without these:
There's nothing civil about this war.
Some Flamenco:
The Blues is everywhere, sometimes it just doesn't sound like Blues.
Flamenco dancing:
This is from a movie called Vengo about Gypsies. A somewhat more lightearted Flamenco:
Nice WB...and a little hypnotic Malian magic with a touch of Cooder:
There's nothing civil about this war.

Summertime, with some skat. The beauty of this song is there's a million covers. Another of my favorites is by Sam Cooke. It still cracks me up that I hate musicals and dig this song.
