    I'm liking this. From 1944 I believe.

Every time I hear Sam & Dave performing "Hold On I'm Coming" I think of Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood". I used to sit and play the two 45's one after the other, over and over in the mid 60's. (My mom liked 'em too so she rarely put up a fuss.)

Yep, the good old Atlantic label. Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Booker T & the MG's...
Back when the R&B labels had their own house band and house style.

The Clash had Sam & Dave open for them in the late '70s, they were big fans of American R&B.

Lately I've been enjoying Jerry Butler.

    And Chuck Jackson.

That's one of the reasons one of my favorite movies is the Blues Brothers

    Two of the greats...

No finer music has existed than what came out of the Stax studios.

We are indeed fortunate to have a legacy of truly magnificent music in this country. I'm a bit biased in that the blues and straight-ahead jazz (hard bop) are the two genres that have the deepest sway over me...though my tastes are very eclectic. From Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson to Townes Van Zandt.

Just a little taste of cotton patch blues from the late Junior Kimbrough...

...And a little classic jazz from the late Oliver Nelson...
