100%. There was a good documentary on Mavis from a couple of years ago. I will try to find it.

I am a huuuuuge fan of The Band, but that version of The Weight is simply the best one ever recorded. When Mavis kicks in and blends with Levon, damn, that is what singing is all about.

This is a great performance by Lisa Fischer, the Rolling Stones backup singer. Even Keith smiles......

On the modern side, Sylvan Esso is an electronica duo that usually leaves me cold, but this track with some friends just grabbed me.

The Austin Lounge Lizards did perhaps the most honest version of the “meeting the wise old man in the bar” song with “Old Blevins”. Most of their live versions online have poor audio so here’s a good cover:

How can you not smile at these lyrics?

...Old blevins was still talking when I seized my chance to flee
Back home she's never known I'm not the fool I used to be
Buy I know that a man and woman's lives were somehow changed
By a loathesome toothless geezer, incoherent and deranged
And my memories of that evening fuel an inner mounting fear
That I might become old Blevins anywhere that they sell beer
And I'll say "Blah blah blah blah bla......

Mark Knopfler - Brothers in Arms (1996 live in London)

I'm not a native English speaker, so I have to spend a bit more effort to understand the meaning of English songs. Today I've learned: This song was written during the Falkland war. Its essence is:

"We are fools to make war
    On our brothers in arms."

Neil Young's "Rockin' in the free world" performed by Simple Minds (in 2009)

If this does not rock, I don't know what rock is.

Kennedy Center honors Led Zeppelin. Music starts at 7:45. Great version of “Stairway”.

The current thread on knife fighting puts me in mind of the late, great Willie Dixon...a man who was a pugilist of some note...
