I would grind the locking tab off. This totally disables the lock and retains all factory parts.

I never knew how the plug was retained. Have there ever been issues with that clevis pin working loose? That would concern me as Im sure it would lock up the action solid.

I don't have a lot of rounds through this this, but it seems to be pretty secure. The plug has been out for a number of years and I haven't heard of that happening.

Hard for me to say which aesthetic I prefer though...

I only own one revolver with a lock, so maybe I'll try a plug for it. My wife has a few (cough, cough) with the lock, and I don't see it being worth the time and money to change them all over.

I looked on the S&W forum, but does anyone have good contact info for the plug maker?
