A round a second is slow fire?

I like orange/red aiming points on a light colored background. Around 1" for 7 yards, 2" for 15 yards, and 3-4" at 25 because it's close to the width of the front sight post (YMMV). Aim small, miss small. It's also easier to see your sights because of the contrast.

Those are helpful, thanks. 1 second is just an estimate. Long enough to get the sights back on target and stabilized. Probably more like 1-3 seconds for most shots, but no longer than 5 sec.

I am like the last person to be making any comments, but is it possible you just aren't gripping hard enough?

It also appears to me that the pistol is not being gripped firmly enough / not returning to the same spot after the shot is fired. I am also a big fan of 1-hole drills like Surf demonstrates in the video below:

Target focus. Interface issues like grip or trigger usually show up on the target biased to one side or the other. The fact that the stringing is pretty evenly split makes me think it's neither of those. Can you recall the image of a crystal clear front sight at the shot and the path it followed immediately afterward? If not, work one hole drills starting at 3 yds and then increase distance as it cleans up.

I do probably lose focus. Good thoughts. Reading through all the links above tells me I just need to slow down and focus on basics for a while. The drills sound really helpful.

You need a gun with a better trigger in that case.

Or just hold the gun better.

Lots of good ideas already. I usually try to change targets, especially the color. I've seen people put dark sight on black target and are actually not putting the pistol in the same spot each time. Maybe a small dot on white background to check?
What you do right before you know you're going to be in a use of force incident, often determines the outcome of that use of force.
