Have we posted this pin number/grocery confrontation in Oregon yet?

I find this interesting, because it's a more likely "boiling frog" problem to solve than needing to cap tangos with a .7 second draw and killer 3x5 card-at-25 marksmanship. Being a guy who's spent a lot of time shopping for groceries in PacNW Fred Meyers, this one just isn't all that improbable for a repeat showing, IMHO. Any thoughts on how to handle the initial transgression to better keep things from going sideways?
    TIA.

Him looking does not in and of itself constitute a threat.

"Do you mind not looking?". Would have been the easiest response to his actions.

If he continued to look, the transaction would have been over already and if, for whatever reason, your Spidey sense was going off just stay in the store and call 911, giving a good description of the person and maybe a vehicle description if he went into his vehicle. Wait for the police to show up and ask to be escorted to your vehicle. Pain for the officers, but better safe than sorry.

The fact he pulled out a firearm with children in close proximity speaks towards his mental status.

In contrast you can always change your pin faster than it takes to heal from a gunshot

Wow, old story. I'll have to go back and read it because I don't remember the details at all. Good one for discussion if I remember the right one.

In the desert, looking for water.
Weird story. Foolish reaction on shooter's part to pull the gun if he wasn't doing anything shady. Foolish reaction if he was, for that matter.

Not sure what I would do in the shootee's place. And I think that may be the point: if the average joe's reaction to somebody trying to get a PIN is uncertainty, as in "is he really doing what I think he's doing?" Then that makes the invasive act easier to continue and finish.

That is an old story. It just hit my inbox this morning; I got as far as Aug 22 and drove on. Interesting that Mr. Seedy had a CCW. I guess the 1 percent crime rate figure among permit holders had to come from somewhere...

There's a chance that Mr. Seedy wasn't even trying to get her PIN but just looked like he was and, when confronted about it, bowed up and "Stood muh ground!"

You just need a clean criminal record to get a permit, you don't need any intelligence or social skills.

Notice the big funky dude before he's looking over your wife's shoulder.

    Jesus.

Everybody go read the followup article.

    New Tactical Training Scenario:

You're standing in line at the grocery store when the husband of the woman in front of you in line decides you've been trying to read his wife's PIN and circles the register, shouting obscenities, to physically assault you. Have you loaded DEADLY HOLLOWPOINTS® in your gun?

Still not a crime to look at someone's pin.

At that time you can defend yourself physically or simply push to flee back into the store and call the police.

    Didn't say it was.

Did you read the article I linked? (It puts the situation in a very different light from the original one.)

"Mr. Harryman is not the bad guy I this," said Lori Amato, who witnessed the shooting.

Amato said the Young was "flipping out" and started the fight, yet it is Harryman who is going to prison.

Harryman was licensed to carry a concealed weapon. "What good is having a concealed handgun license if you can't use it," Amato said.
