    Armed policing in the UK

Interesting article detailing the addition of several hundred more of armed officers in the UK. Does this portend a paradigm shift towards armed policing in Britain, or is this a stopgap measure to counter potential terror attacks?

Glock 9mm pistols. I wonder if they spent $100 million pounds to figure that choice out.

BTW - when I was in the UK in 1988 at Heathrow, I looked out the window of my plane and saw this guy roll by.

The idea of motorcycle-mounted rapid-response units is pretty smart, especially in a congested urban area.

PERF uses example of UK police to say we don't need guns.

UK police say they need more guns because unarmed officers don't cut it:

The reality of having to deal with armed and deadly attackers is that you need firearms officers who will use force to stop those attackers in their aim.
    Gotta' love it!

I would of thought that their strict gun control laws would of prevented terrorists from attacking these European countries with guns.

Thus the police would not need guns.

    Guess its not working. Strange.

Someone should point this out to Hillary.

Watch this disappear overnight some day when everyone "feels" safe again. It's a good step but it's almost guaranteed to change nothing in the long run.

Call me pessimistic but a hyper leftist place like the UK didn't even permanently change when Germany was a few miles from burning every living thing everywhere to the ground.

The average Brits I've talked to are weapon and fighting paranoid.

Just wanted to share my reaction to this quote:

"Despite the fact they are carrying guns they are still police officers..."

I'm getting a little deja vu...

Re the additional numbers of armed police, I can't say how they're trained or how long the training takes but they don't just appear overnight and are just as unlikely to disappear overnight.

If you want a rapid police response to an armed offender, you need to arm every patrol officer. Otherwise officers can only stand around (but not to close), observe and wait for armed backup.

Increasing the number of special forces may decrease their Response time. But it is not going to solve the problem.
If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
