I really like that fisrt Colt officer's framed gun that was posted.
Many moons ago, my very first semi-auto pistol was a new what they
called "series 80" Colt Combat Commander,
Aside from SIGs, Glocks, and CZs (founder.CZforum.com here) I've had a
couple 1911s since then, all Commander type guns.
Two in .45 CAP, and a short-lived Guardian in .38 Super.
The Colt and DW were steel and stainless steel so
recoil was no concern.
My DW was light and thin, with a huge fireball and nasty recoil..
at least for me.
The .45 ACP in my (then) Glocks and MOD 2, and also my current XD-S .45
just bothers me to shoot with my advanced Firbromyalgia and diagnosed
carpal tunnel.
A couple months ago..I made the mistake of handling a NIB Ruger LW 9mm.
This was when I contacted the famed 1911 Bug, and I waited
to trade for this:
Low recoil, really low. Easy slide to rack, even for my wife.
Cheaper to shoot than a .45 ACP even though I think 1911s
should be .45 or .38 Super, so my man card gets 2 points
deducted for this 9mm 1911
Is a 9mm in the 1911 platform addictive??
I've never had any gun that I've shot 500 rounds in less than a
month.
Actually around shot 500 rounds for the entire year of 2015.
However..and I use that word a lot.
I'm intrigued by the 2016 LW Commander and the
Colt dual recoil springs.
This might give me a Commander with recoil that I could
live with.
Those that have or have shot the Kimber Pro series in .45
have said that that bull barrel keeps recoil down as well.
So, I really like Commander type guns, even though my RAMI
and PPS M2 have shorter grips than the RUGER CMD.
Should .45 recoil be too much for me (as with my XD-S .45)
I'll just opt for a Colt or Kimber in 9mm.
You think you're done with them. Then you lay your hands on a really special one, like this Wilson. Built over 20 years ago, and just oozes coolness. Don't get me wrong,my next pistol is a G19, but that's only because Hillary is forcing my hand. Otherwise, it's only 1911's that feed my passions-of-the-gun
Thanks to this thread...I now own yet another one!
Colt credits Ken Hackathorn as helping to design the Combat Unit pistol, so it stands to reason that he would be enthusiastic about Colt actually following advice. I'd expect to be pretty happy with current Colts, SA, or DWs out of the box, but not with Taurus, RIA, Kimber, Kahr/Auto Ordnance, and many others.

Beware of my temper, and the dog that I've found...
I only changed out the MSH from flat (with an abrading lanyard loop cutout) to the arched as seen in the photo.
