Thread: Why single action revolvers?

It has been a while, and I will show my SA revolver ignorance, but I thought this started as a 4 5/8 stainless Super Blackhawk, that Hamilton Bowen reduced in size:

The grip was conventional but Bowen reduced that as part of the work. Interestingly, there was no Scandium 329 when I did this, and this was an attempt to make a trim .44 field revolver.

I also have a Milt Sparks IWB and OWB holster custom made for it, but prefer the Kydex for wading and rough use.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

Sorry, I'd kinda wandered off there for a minute.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

Sadly, I don't have any of these anymore. I sometimes miss the .44 Magnum Bisquero and the Vaquero with the .38-40 and 10mm Auto cylinders...

Just a Hairy Special Snowflake supply clerk with no field experience, shooting an Asymetric carbine as a Try Hard. Snarky and easily butt hurt. Favorite animal is the Cape Buffalo....likely indicative of a personality disorder.

Marty Robbins and Big Iron are reason enough to love SA sixguns.

Now that I'm at a PC I can actually post a few pics.

Pietta 1873 SAA clone in .357 magnum. POS broke after only 160 rounds but it's still pretty.

    Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt.

If I wanted to build a super accurate hunting revolver chambered for a very powerful cartridge, I'd start with a Ruger single action.

Since some of you mentioned the big bores, the grip of a single action revolver directs the recoil into the palm of the shooter's hand. Some double action revolvers and semiautos can direct the recoil into the web between the thumb and index finger, which is much less able to absorb it.

My daughter is nearing the age where she should learn how to shoot. While I plan to start her on a .22 rifle, she will get to shoot a .22 pistol as soon as she shows me she is safe with the rifle. Depending on how well her hand fits my S&W K-22 and Browning Buck Mark, a Ruger Bearcat might be worth considering.
