    MDFI training

Hey guys, curious if anyone knows anything about this training outfit. My step brother is looking to train with them and I am just curious if anyone has good/bad stuff to say about them.

No personal experience but I've heard good things.

One of their principle instructors Eric Utrecht, is heavily involved with the Brian Terry Foundation. Brian Terry was a USBP Agent, originally from Michigan, who was killed in AZ by a Mexican "rip crew" armed with rifles traced back to "Operation Fast and Furious". Eric did Treks Trek a 2,000 mile cross country bike ride to raise money for the foundation.

Eric did an interview with Ballistic Radio discussing both MDFI and the Brian Terry Foundation.

The fact that they have a basic pistol class titled YSINTG -" You Suck It's Not The Gun" is a good sign. They seem to be very much in tune with P-F values.

“..after witnessing scores of shooters blaming their pistol sights for missing their intended targets. YSINTG shows [that]…focusing on…the core fundamentals of shooting will greatly improve the marksmanship of any shooter…”

I took a couple pistol classes and plan on taking more. Strongly recommend. For context I've also taken classes with Cain, DeFoor, and Gonzales. I started with MDFI and was well prepared for those classes. Steve Fisher used to own (?) MDFI and teach with Erik aka "Trek" before Steve went to magpul. Another former instructor from MDFI is a PF member and a great teacher in his own right.

I have taken Foundation Carbine and YSINTG , Foundation Pistol on the books for September.

Trek and cadre are great teachers and all around good dudes.

They pretty much own the mid range market up here. Very solid.

MDFI is great. Trek and the cadre are great. Trek's ability to articulate and run classes is better than a lot out there. Now, they're not "tier 1" and don't claim to be. They help people build a strong foundation so when they move onto the "tier 1" guys like Steve Fisher, Larry Vickers, Costa, Ernest Langdon, etc... they're ready to learn and those instructors don't have to worry about the little things with MDFI alum.

ETA: Also their YSINTG class is great. Even for "advanced shooters" its a great class. You spend 8 hours trying to shoot ragged little holes. I've done it twice and have seen improvements both times. Just for reference before you suck I was in the mid 20s with dot torture and my 200 score was in the low 100s. While I still haven't cleaned dot torture 48 or 49 out of 50 isn't too difficult for me (theres just always one or two rounds!!!) and shooting in the mid 150s on the 200 feels disappointing. YMMV.

I would agree with what everyone else is saying; very good training. I've taken a few handgun classes and it is very good, down to earth instruction. Check out the scholarships that they offer too.
