Never had Old Rasputin. Hard to come by in these parts. Rasputin is rated just slightly higher on BeerAdvocate. I'd presume the flavor profile will be similar. If you like the style, I'm guessing you'll like the Founder's.

Tell you what. Fly on out, spend x-mas with us and I'll provide you with beer, bourbon and single malt.

If you can find it, Old Rasputin is great. It actually convinced Mrs. Drang that stouts can be a Good Thing.

I got a new Christmas ornament!

    That would’ve been epic.

My daughter gave me a book about Rasputin and a four pack of Old Rasputin. My son gave me a Phoenix pub pass and it’s got a couple places where you can read and drink. I’ll take the new book.

I spent an afternoon at the Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea, HI last week. Not only did they have great food (excellent green chili stew and cumin roasted kabocha squash.. a feeble attempt at staying on my diet), they have great beer as well. I went with their darker choices on this trip.. White Mountain Porter and Dark Sabbath.. both were excellent. If you have a chance to be traveling around on the Big Island, they were worth the stop.

I also hit up the more mainstream Kona Brewery for my old standby Hawaii beer. Had a couple Longboards.. but I also tried an IPA the waitress said I might be able to like (I'm typically not an IPA guy), the Kua Bay IPA was actually not too bad. I also tried out their Wailua Wheat, which was o.k. but nothing special.

Whenever I see Longboard Beer I think of Big Wednesday. I like it.
