It really *is* a golden age for those of us that enjoy good beer. Gotta say, I'm proud South & North Carolina are doing a yeoman's job with some great beers...

SC Made (to name a few worth trying):
Legal Remedy World Court Mocha Blonde Stout
Frothy Beard Tides of Galway Irish Red
    Holy City Pluff Mud Porter
    Steel Hands Brewing Coffee Lager
Westbrook Brewing Mexican Cake Habanero Imperial Stout
Westbrook Brewing One Claw Rye Pale Ale
    Carolina Bauernhaus Whiskey Sour
    Island Coastal Lager

NC Made (to name a few worth trying):
D9 Brewing Brown Sugar Brown Cow Brown ale
    Highland Brewing Gaelic Ale
Olde Mecklenburg Brewing Dunkel (and their Copper too)
    Burial Brewing Skillet Donut Stout
Foothills Brewing Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate
    NoDa Brewing Coco Loco
    Triple C Brewing 3C IPA

    Cheers!

^^^ We are very fortunate to have many excellent craft brewers in the area.

But I have to say that I've never cared for Highland Brewing in general, and their Gaelic Ale in particular. It always seemed to have a "soapy" flavor to me. But it's been a few years since I last tried it, so I may give them another shot down the road. I "think" they made a good porter but I may be confusing them with another local brewer.

Ecusta Brewing Company and Brevard Brewing Company are also making good beer along with some of the larger names like Sierra Nevada and Oskar Blues which are both local.

Come for the mountains and small town lifestyle...stay for the beer.

Walking back from an early evening walk with the dog when my neighbor comes out on his porch and hands me one I've never tried before...

"Wilma's Wandering EyePA" from Smithfield, NC. ABV 13.5%

Interesting. Sort of like barley wine, Belgian ale and IPA blended.

    Red Oak

For NC, I recently stumbled on Red Oak Bavarian Amber and have been loving it. Their thing is it’s made in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot guidance.

I love their Imperial Red but I haven't seen it around in a good long while. Lagunitas is good stuff for sure.

    That's been a standard since 1987 or 88, if I remember correctly. One of S N's best.
Take a bottle and age it in a cool part of your basement for a few months. Barleywines are one of the few beers that benefit from some cellaring.
