A few months ago I was issued an MP5SD, mainly because it was sitting in the armory and apparently, all I had to do was ask.

Soon there after, my boss realized all the armorers certified on the MP5s had retired. So, I got approval to attend the 3 day MP5 armorer’s course at HK in Ashburn, VA.
There were 16 students in the course which is only open to LE/MIL. Agency’s represented were the USPIS (4), U.S. Marshals Service (4), NCIS (1), ATF (1), DEA (1), several from local agency’s and (1) LEO from Northern Ireland and (1) from Canada.
The course was pretty fast passed and very informative. The main instructor was Bob Shultz and he interjected lots of historical information about the MP5. It was like a History class combined with hands on technical demonstrations.
The MP5s heyday according to some may have passed years ago but it was nice to see lots of guys still using them and getting the training to keep them in service.
A nice bonus to go along with Bob’s expert historical information was several trips inside the “Gray room” on site. This room houses some very rare HK weapons and it was very impressive. Thought I’d share some photos from inside for all the HK fans to enjoy.
