AFAK use on duty quick AAR

    Description of event:

Responded to call for a person down on the street, bleed from mouth. Up on arrival, EMS pulled up in front of me. EMS began CPR and it was clear there was a serious bleed coming from one of the legs, thick, red blood that continued to "shoot" out when CPR was applied. Other EMS (two per squad) went to get AED.

    Actions taken:

I deployed my SOF T Wide TQ and applied it to the leg which was bleeding. The second EMS tech didn't bring a TQ with the AED. I applied TQ and the EMS tech was trying to rip the clothing off the person including a leather strap, which I deployed sheers to cut clothing off to affect positive AED pad attachment.

    Observations:

TQ application effective and sheers use very effective.

    Areas for improvement:

Unless I had an AED nothing would have been able to be done.

Person expired in the hospital from complications of some sort of medical condition which was not apparent on scene. Leg injury was from falling onto metal exposed grate.

AFAK is Rykers Nylon, which I posted photos of. Third week I am wearing it on duty...

Sucks to hear the victim died but this is one reason Pennzoil and I designed this. Immediately accessible med gear.
