NARCAN PARTIES:' Drug users overdosing to be brought back to life

    http://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/nar...life/580740050

Is this story BS ? It claims the users get a "rush" from being revived. That does not comport with my limited experiences with Narcan.

Sounds like BS as reported. Most of the reports I've read say that overdose patients who are brought all the back are often angry and/or violent. Narcan is an opioid receptor blocker and can also block endorphins, so it's hard to see how it could cause a high.

On the other hand, some of those same overdose patients say they were on a great high before being yanked out of it. So maybe it's not a Narcan high, but the high from a deliberate overdose that the patients are seeking.

    Found this at EMSWorld:

"... In other locations, Coyle said some users are hosting "Narc-Me" parties, or "Lazarus Parties," where they have naloxone in the hand of one sober friend, while others try various strengths and varieties of opioids."

CDC map and table for overdose mortality rates by state. It's depressing to see WV with 41.5/100K when only one other state is above 30/100K.

It's not just a CV-padding handout to have Chris Christie head up that panel.

BS. The "rush" from narcan is deeply unpleasant.

This might be true but not many junkies I have met have their life together enough to execute that degree of advanced planning...

That, and how many are trustworthy enough, let alone in control of themselves enough, to actually be the sober one?

It's evident in my area that the community has become accustomed to seeing addicts passed out everywhere...called to a man "down in the road" arriving in the rig we see a 30's WM laying in the breakdown lane of a busy road with traffic cones surrounding him. Apparently a utility crew noticed him out there and surrounded him with cones to prevent him from getting popped. They didn't roll him over or check if he needed help, just surrounded him with cones.
Look! Just because we're bereaved, that doesn't make us saps!
