Thread: Heroin Overdose Epidemic - what is your perspective?

    Re the West Point cadets:

"Investigators said only four of the seven who suffered an overdose actually used the drug. Fort Lauderdale Fire Chief Stephen Gollan said the synthetic opioid is so potent that those who administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation also fell ill."

If they could, abusers wouldn’t go to the trouble of injection if they could simply rub it on their skin to get high. For perspective, the transcutaneous preparation of fentanyl takes hours to build up in the skin to a therapeutic level. Thus, the conclusions reached by the police sergeant in that article cannot be supported by science.

This is apparently becoming more prevalent.

“Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, fentanyl, even deadlier,” said Administrator Milgram. “DEA has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 States. The DEA Laboratory System is reporting that in 2022 approximately 23% of fentanyl powder and 7% of fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine.”

Xylazine and fentanyl drug mixtures place users at a higher risk of suffering a fatal drug poisoning. Because xylazine is not an opioid, naloxone (Narcan) does not reverse its effects. Still, experts always recommend administering naloxone if someone might be suffering a drug poisoning. People who inject drug mixtures containing xylazine also can develop severe wounds, including necrosis—the rotting of human tissue—that may lead to amputation.

The latest data from a state-funded collaborative tracking program in Massachusetts shows that about a third of New England’s illegal drug supply is laced with xylazine.

A School of War podcast on how Fentanyl fits within China's larger geopolitical strategies. The guest (Will Scharf) is a former Federal prosecutor in Missouri. I thought some on this board might find the topic interesting.

Here in Vancouver, Canada, people are dying regularly from heroin overdoses, but it's really fentanyl. In fact what I hear locally from LE is that basically all street drugs are cut with fentanyl, obviously in very poorly controlled concentrations. I think we've had several times the usual annual number of fatal ODs here this year already as a result...

Ive got a question. Are drug users using plastic straws for something. I got a fountain drink from a local gas station and there were no straws. They had them at the cash register. The girl ringing me said that once they moved them to check out the disapperance of straws stopped.

A cut-down straw is very common drug paraphernalia.

I guess todays users are special. I thought a rolled up dollar bill was how people snorted. I thought at first nobody carries cash but then realized illegal transaction arent using credit or debit cards.
So I guess that small town I was in has an epidemic of snortable drugs.
What kind of drugs are people snorting besides cocaine?
