    The all-powerful .45 .....

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina sheriff is urging women to get concealed weapons permits and carry guns to protect themselves.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright made the suggestion Monday while discussing the arrest of a suspect in an attempted rape last weekend.

Wright suggests that women carry a .45-caliber weapon because he says they wouldn't have to be accurate, just close to the target. He showed reporters at a news conference a fanny pack women could use to carry a handgun while jogging.

The sheriff encouraged women to walk in groups. And he said it's better to carry a gun than mace.

Forty-six-year-old Walter Monroe Lance of Spartanburg was charged Monday with kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and grand larceny in a Sunday attack on a woman in a park.

The .45 ACP does not kill your adversary. When fired in anger it goes back in time and kills your adversary's ancestors...causing his existence to be blotted from the face of history forever.

I think the sheriff inadvertently left out some information and his tactics are a bit dated.
…says they wouldn't have to be accurate, just close to the target… and …encouraged women to walk in groups…
I think he is talking about volley fire.

And since he never existed, you never had to fire a round in the first place.

See, the mere possession of a .45 makes all threats negligible.

    It gets better...

"At one point, Wright held up a fanny pack and said, "They make this right here where you can conceal a small pistol in them. They got one called The Judge that shoots a .45 or a .410 shell. You ain't got to be accurate; you just have to get close."

Don't want to be too hard on the guy -- I agree with his overall message, and he's obviously trying to do the right thing -- but suggesting the Judge a small pistol for concealed carry?

1.21 Gigawatts never sounded so fearsome!

Perhaps the Sheriff is alluding to "contact distance" shots? Either way, having a gun is great... having training to go along with it is much better, and easier than generating 1.21Gigawatts.

It wasn't .45 ACP (sing it with me: THEY ALL FALL TO HARDBALL) that the Sheriff (who, please remember, is one of the good guys) was saying made up for lack of skill; it was the .410 shot round. It is, in fact, even wronger.

I got around the stopping power issue by gluing primers into the hollowpoint, so now they're explosive tipped.
