    On the positive side, with an open emitter in the rain, it is easier to find the, or at least a dot on the draw.

    Sorry, I was being flippant. With an open emitter optic, water can get in the wrong places and scatter multiple dots across the display.

    It does shield the emitter somewhat, but does nothing for the lens glass.
