New gun training program in Eastpointe uses real bullets, scenarios

New gun training program in Eastpointe uses real bullets,

EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WJBK) - Imagine experiencing first-hand what it's like to dodge bullets. Would you be ready to fight back?

A new gun training program uses real guns and real bullets to give trainees a feel for what it's like to be in a real gun fight.

"It is the next evolution of training and it's as close to real as you can possibly get," says Bill Kucyk, the owner of Action Impact Gun Ranges. Kucyk will soon roll out the new training system for both civilians and those in law enforcement. The trainees and actors use real guns loaded with real bullets

So they have role players and students shooting at each other with live ammo seperated by a clear ballistic wall ?

What could possibly go wrong? I'd hate to be the guy running the gazillion the scenario after the ballistic window has been exposed to UV for a few years.

How is this different/better than sim munitions???

I don't think it's a clear wall, it's a reflective surface, so you're shooting "at" someone that's around the corner from you. Basically you're shooting side by side parallel at each other in the mirror, with an armored wall between you.

No, I do not expect this to be the new ECQC any time soon.

Assuming this is in fact side-by-side as it appears to be, I see some value in it--getting over the natural aversion of shooting at another human being as Grossman discusses, shooting at a target that moves, reacting to the actions of a real-life person, timing yourself against another shooter, etc. I don't by any means think it's as good as simunitions, but I think it has some advantages.

It has some potential, for sure. I think one of the challenges/wrinkles to deal with is the necessarily "long" distance created by the reflective setup. At those distances I would expect lots of situations become gun problems that in real life at 3 feet are not gun problems.

True, this tends to be the weakness in airsoft as a FOF tool vs sims as well.

There's a piece about it on The Firearms Blog. It has a video of how it's supposed to work.

I don't think it will change the mind of many here.

Can someone with some more physics training than me explain how this is supposed to work.

The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.

That is true for both light and for bullets.
So if I can see them in the mirror, they could potentially get a bounced bullet.
