I'm a lazy bastard, I just rotate out the 45 carry ammo when I look at it and go "holy shit those are starting to look old". I chamber the damn things every single day and don't notice much when I blast through them at the end of their service life.

45 is a low pressure round. I would not want to do that with a .40

Exactly my situation. Too bad someone hasn't invented a "Go/No Go" gauge for bullet setback.

I do about the same thing. 3-5 on pistol and never on rifle. We run HST in our duty weapons.

in my experience this is dependent strongly on caliber. 45s set back the fastest, followed by 40, then 9mm. I usually carry gold dots or critical duty. I have noticed that there is a longer period of time to noticeable set back in critical duty than gold dot. This is not scientific by any stretch, just an observation by someone tuned in to set back in ammo.

Rotate to the bottom of the mag after it's been chambered.

For big sticks, bag it and load them back up when the bag has enough to fill a magazine.
