I have a pal from college who grew up in Nairobi.

Me and him were sharing Bad Neighborhood stories-me of Chicago , and him of Nariobi's suburbs. He "won" that discussion by a landslide. When mentioning how roving gangs of serious jerks with AKs ambushed travelers on roads and trails , I'd pointed out the obvious solution-avoid the trails and you avoid the Serious Jerks.

Pal started laughing. I asked what was so funny .

"People use the trails because they know the trails are safe. "

-safe!! I blurted out. You just said bad guys with AKs ambush travelers!

"Better to get shot or robbed then to walk on a black mamba in the bush. "

    Oh.

I can handle snakes. It's the tarantulas that freak me out.

It's hard for me to even look at pictures of them. In fact I doubt I will recheck this thread out of fear of someone posting one.

A memorable DoD safety brief included details about Camel Spiders, which sometimes used shoes and boots as nightly sleeping places..

Bad things happen when feet and wildlife occupy the same personal place at the same time.

You're leaving AZ because of that little guy? They only count if they're six feet or longer.

Then you'll just have to move north out of pure shame.

I hate snakes. Really really hate snakes. It was Avery mild winter so I imagine they will be coming out earlier this year as the weather warms up. Global warming and all that jazz. Saw a smooshed copper head near our new place. Baby by the size of it. Living among the trees and shit is fun till you realize you're definitely sharing the place. Need to warn my 10yo.

Apparently a woman participant at a USPSA match last Sunday at Ben Avery range in Phoenix was bit by a Western Diamondback when she went to tape a target. This was the snake.
