    This sounds less like a case of LEOSA being challenged by NY and more like a case of a criminal making a piss poor attempt at hiding behind LEOSA....

    Under NY law active LEO both Police Officers/ Deputy sheriffs and peace officers as are federal LEO's listed as having peace officer powers. Fed LEO not on listed in the criminal procedure law, such a US BOP corrections officers can possess agency issued handguns per their duties but must have a NY pistol license to possess a personally owned handgun.

    AFAIK retired LEOs in NY state who are NY residents must have a pistol license to possess a handgun.
