    Marksmanship books and DVD's

Someone asked me to recommend a good book or DVD on pistol marksmanship, and I honestly was at a loss for what to tell them. The only thing off the top of my head was Andy Stanford's book Surgical Speed Shooting, or some of the NRA/AMU stuff that you can download.

Any better ideas? I've seen some good tidbits on Youtube, but I can't think of any solid DVD choices, or any books that are currently in print.

Competition-oriented, but good from a learning-how-to-shoot-via-DVD point of view:

Tom Givens (Rangemaster) has a few good videos to check out.
Matt Burkett and Magpul each have a good series.

Panteao Productions a bunch of videos by highly respected instructors. I'll just acknowledge that there is some controversy over the owner's past business dealings and let others comment as appropriate.

Stoeger's (good) crap and a whole assload of dry/live fire is honestly all you really need to become a great pistol shooter. Most of shooting improvement is just dedicating the boatload of time and money to it.

To elaborate on Peallys post. I'd buy Stoegers books first then the DVD's

I've read quite a few. Most of them seem to have about 70% (or more) in common with each other, which is not surprising because they are all trying to achieve the same end. Practical Pistol by Ben Stoeger was probably a bit better than most. A few years ago I bought a used copy of The Pistol Shooter's Book by Charles Askins and it stands out because of when it was written. I really need to finish reading that one.

As I recall, Frank Proctor has a really good pistol training video, though I can’t recall the title. I have taken his one day class and he is a very enthusiastic, down to earth instructor.
