    Old school working dogs were tattooed in the ear. There was a Gutenburg (moveable) type set of pliers where you put the desired ID number in the jaws of the pliers, inked the numbers and then pinched the ear. Not saying all or even most tattooing was done that way, but it seems quick, easy, and consistent compared to freehamding a goofy Ares symbol with a slash. Pinching the ear is also an early (but not the only) puppy selection test.

    I think your explanation makes a lot of sense.

    I would be dubious about the symbol were it not in a meme...

For the last few years I have heard rumors that the Euro Schutzhund organizations were going to try to expel dogs if they were seen/photographed certain types of collars for compulsion training.
