Well I can imagine why. Being a parent you want to give your kids things, plus Nerf guns are something you can play with too (because, lets be honest, some things we never grow out of) and you can play together, good parent/child bonding time. Next thing you know you've got 5, 6, 7, maybe a dozen or more plus spare darts and crap. Wouldn't be hard to end up spending as much on some toys as one good real firearm costs. And when they get older Nerf turns into airsoft or paintball and then you actually can spend as much on one as an actual firearm costs or more, especially when you add up all the support gear.
Remember to wear eye pro when playing Nerf with the kids.
