Friend of mine had a water bed in Buffalo. Rented an apartment in an old house in Buffalo. The power went out for a long time. The water bed froze. The expansion split the bed. The temperature was going to go up. Had to take axes to chop up the iceberg and throw it outside. Thus one with alcohol might be a better choice.

Had a waterbed at college. Up north.... in an old farmhouse with a leaky boiler.
I'd wake up occasionally blowing smoke from the cold, but was totally toasty in my warm, electric bed with a thick comforter.
My roommates were usually running around trying to refill the boiler and get the heat going again... LOL.
