Did nobody else wear 'Toughskin' pants? Not sure who made them but they were some kind of burlap/sandpaper combo. It was the only thing my Mom let me wear outside for a number of years. Pretty good preventative for scrapes and abrasions, mostly because it was too uncomfortable to run or bend over while wearing them to have much chance of falling.

Yup, toughskins were my elementary school pants.

Graduated from toughskins to Levi's in middle school. And patches went from iron on to cut up bandanas.

501 button fly or Lee Riders.
And Frye boots.
Jeans jackets, even in the dead of winter, unless you had your letterman's jacket.

Oh, my brother and I wore many a pair of Toughskins jeans. When we wore the knees out they got an iron-on patch. Then in summer they got cutoff into shorts. The next school year the process started over.
