If there's one thing soy-based-fake-meat is an acceptable replacement for, it's grocery-store sausage. What you're tasting is mostly the texture and spices anyway. I'm perfectly okay with substituting soy for ground up hooves and asshole.
Soy bacon on the other hand should get you tried at The Hague.
Wegmans had a new dish - penne pasta with soy sausage - UGH! On the other hand, our Chinese take out place makes a great Sesame, crispy fried tofu. Soy should be eaten as tofu! Little cubes in soup. Some soy ice creams are passable. Asian tofu dishes - fine. Soy pretending to be meat ! NO!
