I got referred to a company through an employment agency where I had an opportunity to go through the training to utilize various CAD systems, back when companies were going out and implementing CAD, but had no CAD data, and contracted people like us to sit there like monkeys copying from paper into vectors. I excelled through the training cycle that was really just an audition, and they were pleased with me and I expected an offer, but turns out they didn't secure the specific contract they were planning the hiring surge around. Oh well.
A year later my buddy that was a bartender calls me up and tells me that company was having a party at the bar he worked at. I put on some clean clothes, crashed the party, and reintroduced myself to the same people that wanted to hire me the prior year. Worked there about five years, met my wife there, and stayed in the industry about twenty five years.
