You forgot the ramps and sweet jumps.

We'd use any scrap board and stack of bricks to make a ramp. I think back and it's a miracle we didn't die. I remember one that was a sheet of flimsy plywood, two cinder blocks, then a stack of red building bricks. Needless to say, we ate shit on that one.

I think I jumped that ramp. I woke up on the ground and my bike was about 10 yards to the left of me. I forgot my name and how to breath for a few minutes.

Remember the feeling when you misjudged, wiped out, and got the wind knocked out of you? That initial rush of laying there on the blacktop with the front wheel still slowly spinning while your buddies were laughing at you...

Yup...Good times.

Now if I wiped out like that, I'd be sore for days.

You're in NC, it's entirely possible you did. I was doing my best Evel Knievel impressions in New Bern.

That sort of thing wasn't as "cool" where we moved to in TN, so I grew out of it until I discovered mountain biking.

I recall a jump where I had slipped the solid front end fork into another hollow fork creating the much sought after “chopper” front end profile.

The slope of the ramp somehow jarred the friction fit (I didn’t have a Mattel TIG welder...lol) so that they came apart once the front end left the ramp and became airborne. I didn’t quite hear it go “SPRONG!”, but certainly suffered the aftermath.

I still hear my buddy laughing his @ss off nearly 50 years later...

I didn’t do much jumping, but those damn slotted storm drains at night… at least the shifter kept me from going over the handlebars.
