Today was the first time in my life I paid more than five dollars a gallon for gas.
I distinctly remember the first time I paid for gas with a bill instead of change ... my vehicle was a 185cc motorcycle with a 1.2 gallon tank, and prices spiked from 39 cents a gallon to a buck something. (in fairness, inflation counts for a half of that ... squinting at some online charts, that .39 gas would be 2.50 today)
When I started driving in '80, I paid 69 cents a gallon for Amoco 96 octane premium, my Javelin used to drink it with the 4 bbl Holley.
We'd drive down to Teterboro Airport and buy the 120 octane aviation fuel for 1.12.
