There was a trial on the old CourtTV, IIRC an officer was charged with shooting a specially challenged man with a rake. His official picture was like one of those haircuts. When he was on the stand, he had a full, styled, wavy head of hair and a nice three piece shoot - as your haircut can hurt you in court. He also used stylish half reading glasses to read the reports while on the stand.
It has been studied whether wearing glasses while testifying will help you in court.
I did notice a difference in how people reacted to me as a police officer from my haircut. I usually had a high and tight haircut which people translated into I’m not fucking around. I also noticed I made more defendants cry if I spoke too harshly to them with that haircut. It also made it easy for my bosses to know who people were complaining about, not that I had many complaints. Criminals tend to respect you more when you treat them like criminals. It also hid my grey hair for awhile. I remember working a homicide scene and the local news was filming from a distance. My haircut made it easy for my family to recognize me on tv
